I did my best to cover each release of this outstanding new label and the reason is not money, advertising or even free promos. I did it because I love this label and the artists it supports, I love the fresh sounds it promotes and I love the consistent quality of each and every release it puts out. The first two EPs of Federico Lange's imprint were dedicated entirely to a single artist: the debut was signed by Berlin deep groovy beats master Alex Agore, while the second featured LA's finest newcomer Rhythm Operator. Starting with their third release, Axe On Wax introduced their VA series in an attempt to bring into spotlight fresh, upcoming and mostly under-appreciated artists from the worldwide underground scene. On 'Spaghetti & Mandolino' we had the pleasure of being introduced to Ciro De Gais, to discover a unique collaboration between E-Man, Dimkal and Speakdeep, to rediscover the work of Stefano Esposito and to delve deeper into the sounds of Kid Mark, the young founder and co-owner of Killax Recordings.
Next week, the fourth Axe On Wax EP sees the light of day and brings together four artists from four different cultures for an energy packed proper tour de house. First up is the London-based Italian Cera Alba who opens the EP with 'Jux', a mighty club warmer driven by a saturated kick drum and crip bass line that roll steadily under smooth cosmic synth pads, steely stabs and lovely melodies. Next up we got the slick bad boy of UK's rising underground bass heavy house scene, Oli Furness himself on the remix duties. The Manchester-based DJ and Producer takes Cera Alba's 'Jux' to a whole other proper british level, where the kicks are as fat as a bulldog in its prime, the bass line thick like muffins and the percussions rich like custard. Massive club banger warning on this one, play it loud or don't play it at all!
The flipside introduces one of Israel's most prolific house figures of recent years, the analog fanatic and vinyl enthusiast Rosenhaft. 'Unplugged Vibez' is the Haifa-based multi-faceted producer's answer to what a raw old-school analog house track should sound like in 2015: chunky kicks powering coarse percussions while lush pulsating synths parade under a smooth celestial string line. As with 'Jux' on the flipside, 'Unplugged Vibez' also gets a remix treatment, this time from the Berlin-based greek superstar producer Kindimmer. Known for his deep hypnotic tech sounds, Kindimmer takes Rosenhaft's club pounder and mellows it down by stripping out the raw and replacing it with groovier kicks, swinged drum patterns, bubbly effects, ethereal leads and deep smooth cosmic synths. A truly introspective voyage through the cosmos to end this solid EP in epic zen fashion.
'Raw Axes' officially launches next monday and to celebrate the occasion, Axe On Wax is throwing a release party at BM Soho in London this evening with Cera Alba and Oli Furness behind the decks.
