Even though Faces Records has been around since 2002, the quantity of releases it pushed out is modest to say the least: around 25 records in total. But don't let these numbers fool you, as the sheer quality of music it has produced in it's 12 years of hard work is top shelf material. Founded in France by Pablo Valentino, the label focuses more on releasing other people's amazing work rather than his own (Pablo has only one of his records released on Faces so far). Together with Danilo Plessow, Faces Records is also home to a very special sub-label named after Danilo's alias Motor City Drum Ensemble, making it quite simply one the best underground house labels in Europe.
Their latest 12" release has just been announced and it's another of their successful samplers, this time featuring 2 established producers and another 2 new comers on the scene. Parisian Aurelien aka KM3 is the first new blood that debuts with 'Come Here', a stripped down raw deep warmer infused with black vocals, hash percussions and a wide driving bass line. French sampling wizard S3A is up next with 'Classy MF', a spectacular work of cutting, sampling and arranging resulting in one of the fattest and grooviest funk-infused house tracks around. The second fresh talent on this EP comes from Mexico and is actually the collaboration between 4004 & Sebastien Vorhaus that delivers a chord driven house dementia spiced up with a swinged percussion elements and scattered vocal loops making 'Room Selections B' the highlight of this release. Ending the record is a Creative Swing Alliance's (Pablo Valentino & Steven Joyce Ames) monumental work of epic strings and dreamy melodies placed on a tight kick and sprinkled with echoed distant vocals making 'Freedom' a truly epic piece of landscape house best suited for those late sunrise mornings.
This one goes out to all the FACES/MCDE/FCL/WPH lovers out there!
