From the same Berlin crew that brought us the highly curated Amicable record label and art repository in 2014, comes a super fresh and different project, this time with vinyl in mind. If Amicable was "all about friends", their brand new sub-label and conceptual mixtape series Ltd, W/Lbl is all about "sophisticated electronic music", mainly downtempo beats and jazzy beats that you can easily dance too. The project actually started in early 2015 with a unique series of 25-minute-long mixtapes and this month it's time for them to jump from concept to product with a really solid wax offering. The first Ltd, W/Lbl is more of a compilation, getting together 4 previously released tracks on various formats for a real epic journey through deep, moody and jazzy landscapes.
First up is Oliver Bernstein's take on the Amiable owner Nicolai Zagrodnick's 'What Music Is All About', released 2 years ago on Oliver's now defunct Schaukel records. Following on the same side is Copper Beard, a Russian artist from Krasnodar who did 2 years ago an ode to 'The Ugly Swans', a movie based on the homonymous book by the Strugatskiy brothers, and the song finally gets a proper pressing now. On the flipside we find Mexico's freshest talent Ahautzab getting a groovy remix to his 2011 jazz-heavy track 'Araucaria' by Italian Gion. Closing the release in a highly narcotic vibe is Japanese producer and drawing artist Cherry with his 'Smoker's High', an extract off his Fractal album from 2012.
When we mentioned curatorial work earlier, we weren't just making it up, it took a tremendous effort to find any info on most of these tracks and their artists so we really have to give kudos to Nicolai for putting this short compilation together and for all the licensing hoops and loops he had to go through. We can't recommend this enough and hope to see many more similar releases from Ltd, W/Lbl in the future!
