Following a successful debut release last year in March that featured a diverse 5-track label sampler, Hidden Wax steps into the new year with hot fresh sounds and a legendary artist for their second release. George Grafton and Scott Harker are two London music college graduates that share a tightly-knit connection for exquisite electronic sounds and a strong love for the black gold. Together they set up Hidden Wax starting from the generally simple idea that "this music needs to be heard".
The label's second release is done by none other than the Detroit house legend Rick Wade. 'My People EP' is a vinyl only release that features two tracks on two sides which only share a glimpse into Rick's creative musical genius. The rightfully titled 'Shibuya Nights' dominates the A Side and is a warm piece of proper deep house by craftily fusing a soothing japanese vocal sample with the low-slung deep groove topped with a dreamy piano line and a romantic string line drifting in the background. On the reverse, 'Check On Me' does an outstanding job at teaching us what Detroit deep house is all about with a mesmerising jazzy trumpet, warm rhodes that instantly point to Homework's 'I'm Into This' and a magnificent pair of warm tribal percussions rhythmically driving the track further and further into love making territory.
Once again Rick Wade delivers a proper definition of what deep house is really all about and I couldn't think of a better place to have this released rather than on Hidden Wax.
