One of the freshest names on the house scene, Montel emerged in the summer of 2012 with a handful of demos sent to handpicked DJs and label owners around Europe and the world. His carefully crafted tunes which showed a penchant for old school flavours and a clean & crisp approach to production soon got into the attention of Seven Music which released his debut EP on Seven Limited at the beginning of 2013. Fast forward one year later and the discography amassed by the irish house producer is insane: 5 own releases on Let's Play House, Midnight Love Club, Wax Classics, Seven Music and Seven Limited as well as numerous appearances on The Love Revolution, Soulfood and Large Music.
The first Montel release of 2014 comes out today on Foot & Mouth and takes a delightful detour from the norm of old school house infused club tunes which he got us used to. 'Third Dimensions EP' is a well planned and deserved ode to the early garage and break-beat scene that kick started the UK Garage and Jungle movement still going strong today in certain places across the UK. Side A features two different cuts of 'Garage Stories', the first one being a break-beat garage monster that pays direct homage to Paradise Garage, while the second cut replaces the male vocals with ecstasy inducing female murmurations but retains the aggressive stance. On the flipside two peak-time hard hitting old school house flavours proudly reside. First off is 'I Can't Wait', a cheeky vocal hit that punches slow but strong and puts a grin on your face everytime you hear it scream. Going further away into the early sounds of atmospheric breaks and pre-rave anthems on the breakdowns and quickly recovering for the main phrases into a dark techy afterhours voyage is 'NASA', a glorious end to an outstanding release.
This one is for the connoisseurs, nostalgics and mostly for everyone who likes a bit of modern old school in their crates!
