Our favourite Berlin-based imprint and one of the most underrated deep house labels around, Tieffrequent starts the year with a special release. After featuring an exemplary track on the first release and a smashing remix on the second, Siggi's good friend and collaborator, Frankfurt's finest producer and party thrower, Le Rubrique gets a release all for himself. Rubrique has made quite a name for himself on Frankfurt's underground house scene by both organising the famous Sucio nights and also by entertaining the audience with his warm and soulful eclectic selections. He is also an avid producer, putting stuff out since 2008 on labels like Adaptation, Polyfon, Playtracks and Smile For A While.
The fifth Tieffrequent release comes after a well-deserved break since last summer and packs 3 original tracks completed by an Ugly Drums remix, all in the usual high quality artistic package baring Vanessa Vadineanu's trademark brush strokes. 'The Art Of Loving' kicks things off in full force with it's driving kicks and on-the-point percussions, opening up from a filtered loop to a fully fledged party mover. The revolving pads and groovy synths add a cinematic feel while playful melodies and selected vocal samples add a bubbling, champagne-like character to the arrangement. Next up is 'Stoya', a dark and slow trip to the redlight district where things get hot and intense real quick. The moody bassline, echoed synth stabs and sultry african drums set the mood while playful gliding melodies and spicy vocals complete the setting, turning the aptly titled track into a deeply erotic adventure that will leave you longing for more and with each consecutive play.
On the flipside we have 'Back To Back', a rather unique blending of soulful and raw house with added sampling and beautiful synth work. It all starts with a tight kick and a mellow synth line, then a drum machine worth of percussions, claps, snares and congas fill the room. A raunchy bassline starts sawing away at the low end and old-school wurlitzer-like keys play around with the sound. Lively pitched strings and engaging vocal cuts take it straight into good time territory that gets everyone dancing no matter what. Last, but not least, Cologne's wunderkid Ugly Drums does his own thing on the title track, turning it into a jazzy mood swing piece of art house that takes dance music to a higher state of design and sound. Steffen carefully retains key elements from the original piece, but rearranges them into an entirely different scenery, resulting in quite an off beat and unique song, trademark of his musical genius.
'The Art Of Loving' is set to come out next month and pre-order is already available at a few selected stores.
