Remember our fantastic interview with the guys behind the Veniceberg Collective from back in July? Well if you missed it, I strongly encourage you to put some time aside and check it out, but for those that remember it, you might already have guessed at what I'm hinting. To refresh your memory, during the interview, Miche and Frank mentioned that they were "developing a way with some producers to start making some releases under the name of Veniceberg Records and that "the progress is working so good that we might have the first release already with the coming of the new season". It seems the vinyl gods were on their side and the imprint is finally popping its cherry next week with a solid 4-track wax offering from Italy most enduring deep house artist which managed to stay so true to his creed for over 25 years that is world renowned for his style and keeps inspiring artist new and old alike. Next week, after almost 2 years since his last release on Shift LTD which we also reviewed at the time, Enrico Mantini returns with 2 brand new original productions for the long-awaited VNCBRG debut.
'ToGETher' is both a showcase of the producer's two and a half decades of experience and a reassuring that he's still here and going as strong as ever! His first original cut Inside Of You goes back in time to the late 90s deep house sound and reinterprets the classic drum-machine heavy sound with a modern approach. The track revolves around a few simple bass synth notes and clean female vocal samples. Far from the heavy club dancefloors, the track is best suited for more intimate gatherings, where the select audience is going to appreciate it better and not get lost in the crowd. Right up next comes Manchester's most experimental figure Isherwood with his own Chi Move Mix, a bubbly underwater take on Enrico's original track where the bass-line morphs into a short bubble burst, the vocals are drowned leagues under the sea, the sub-bass rumble rattles your senses and detuned chords echo from the deep dark abyss.
On the flipside we are greeted by Enrico's second original cut and our favourite jam of the release. The Creator maintains the simple yet effective approach to making house beats, with only a basic swinging kick-drum-snare pattern serving as the engine, a hot tube-saturated fizzy synth line as the fuel and short vocal cuts as the flavour. The warmer-than-the-sun electric keys on the breakdown will surely melt you heart and are definitely worth a mention. Again, not the roughest floor-filler out there, but definitely the greatest crowd-pleaser on this side of town ;) Imprint Records co-owner Domenico Rosa completes the circle with his late-evening sizzling take on Enrico's original from which he skilfully took the rhodes keys from the breakdown and carries them over as a sustained pad for the entire lenght. Domenico also smooths the drum patterns with a friendlier kick, smooth percussions and a melodic bass-line, while adding a little flavour of his own via a nostalgic eerie melody coupled with distant echoing spoken words of wisdom.
And since you all have been very nice this year, here's a bonus mix from Enrico via his Half Baked Records' newly founded podcast series.
