Zak Khutoretsky is not your common american name, and neither you common techno artist and label owner. DVS1, as Zak is better known to the few of you, holds a special place for us in the underground techno scene by running his own labels: Hush and it's sub-label Mistress Recordings. The labels are still fresh, but so far they managed to feature a couple amazing releases from Borrowed Identity, Juxta Position and DVS1 himself.
The third release on Mistress comes from a rather mysterious figure that goes by the name of Doubt which we know nothing about so far, but the tracks do speak for themselves and we are dealing with either a very talented new-comer or an extremely experienced veteran. The overall tone of 'Mistress 03' is dark, hard and haunting sometimes nightmarish, a bit metallic or distorted at parts but with a powerful full and wide sound that can fill venues ranging from dark basements to monster warehouses. The wizards over at Manmade Mastering did an excellent job on this in regards of mastering and cutting so grabbing a copy of the 12" is a must for any serious record collector, but don't rush to Hardwax yet, 'Mistress 03' is due for release in the first week of March.
